Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) Feasibility Study:

The Pre-Feasibility Study undertaken for the country shows very encouraging results for the provision of firm power and desalinated water to meet potable and agricultural needs through the use of ocean thermal energy technology.  Barbados is one of the world’s highest water stressed countries, which currently depends on desalinating systems to meet potable water demand. Potable water demand projections indicates significant supply shortfall, which will have to be met by increased desalination and more efficient use.  The feasibility study will focus on the combined production of base load power and the desalinated water to determine comparative cost benefits.
